Among the features The Ocean offers are ocean news, expedition tracking, video clips and photo galleries. The companion I Am the Ocean campaign is a global call to action to raise public awareness and move people to help protect this vital natural resource. The National Geographic Society, the Waitt Foundation, Sylvia Earle’s SEAlliance, along with other strategic partners such as SeaWeb, the TEDPrize, Google and IUCN, have joined this initiative under the banner of Mission Blue, which will increase global awareness of the urgent ocean crisis and help to reverse the decline in ocean health by inspiring people to care and act; reducing the impact of fishing; and promoting the creation of marine protected areas.
I Am the Ocean also provides tools to help consumers understand and mitigate the impacts their seafood choices have on ocean health, including a feature on KidSafe Seafood’s list of Best Choices. This seafood consumption guide provides information on sustainable seafood choices that are low in toxicity, sustainably caught and high in omega-3s to help parents and adults make the best decisions for their families.
KidSafe Seafood offers up-to-date information to empower consumers to become active stewards of ocean and human health. To learn more about Kidsafe Seafood, visit us at www.kidsafeseafood.org.
