Seafood Choices "Demystifyed Seafood" for
World Ocean's Day

June 8th was World Ocean Day, the one day in the calendar year entirely dedicated to celebrating our ocean. To celebrate and raise awareness about this occasion, SeaWeb’s Seafood Choices program organized a half-day of panels on seafood sustainability in partnership with the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and the National Ocean and Atmospheric Adminitration (NOAA). Under the theme of Demystifying Seafood, the day included welcoming remarks from Dr. Jane Lubchenco, Undersecretary for Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and NOAA Administrator, and panels on the current status of U.S. fisheries, aquaculture and the state of the Gulf after the 2010 oil spill. A seafood and wine tasting reception, where industry professionals could network, followed the panels.
