Show That Your Business is a Good Catch

The deadline is approaching to nominate your seafood business to win The Good Catch Award for sustainability, part of the UK's National Fish and Chip Awards 2011.

With consumers increasingly interested in how their food is produced and sustainable fisheries being a hot topic, this is a great award to enter if you want to stand out from the crowd. Plus, going through the entry process can actually help you identify the sustainability successes you've already achieved and those other actions you can take to improve your business even further.

Good Catch is a partnership project that helps the UK foodservice sector navigate seafood sustainability. It is a collaboration among SeaWeb's Seafood Choices, the Marine Conservation Society, the Marine Stewardship Council and Sustain. The Good Catch Award recognizes fish and chip shops that have shown initiative in improving the environmentally responsible practices of their business and the seafood that they buy, serve and promote. This award also aims to encourage further progress across the fish and chip sector by highlighting examples of leadership and best practice; catalyzing a wider advancement of seafood sustainability and culture of ocean conservation amongst the culinary community.

Last year's award winners were long-time sustainability champions Colman's of South Shields, England. "Colmans has always embraced sustainability, and our whole team are delighted that the Good Catch Award recognizes our work " said Richard Ord, owner of Colmans. "Sourcing seafood with integrity is the future for Britain's fish and chip shops." And, as Richard noted, "I have seen my sales increase as a direct result of winning the Good Catch Award this year."

Deadline for Round 1 entries is September 3, 2010. Application materials are available at: www.fishandchipawards.com/enter-the-awards/#good-catch
