2011: Next Summit in Hong Kong
Seafood Summit 2011: Responsibility without Borders brought together
more than 700 representatives from all sectors of the seafood
industry and more than 30 countries. Squamish Nation Elder Audrey
Rivers, Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson, Patagonia CEO Yvon Chouinard, Sustainable Fisheries Partnership CEO Jim Cannon, High Liner Foods
CEO Henry Demone as well as SeaWeb Vice President of Sustainable
Markets Melanie Siggs welcomed Summit attendees with their opening

Wales closed the Summit with a special video message.
On January 29 and 30, more than 30 Summit
attendees took advantage of the preconference, overnight field
experience to Vancouver Island to learn about shellfish farming from
local aquaculturists Taylor Shellfish as well as Canada's Department of
Fisheries and Ocean. Participants were then were treated to a
lantern-lit wine and oyster tasting on the beach as well as a trip to
the new Vancouver Island University Marine Field Station. A few others
Summit delegates had the unique opportunity to join fishermen Steve
Johansen and Frank Geech aboard the Organic Ocean spot prawn fishing
boat for another field trip on February 1.
The next Summit will be held September 2012 in Hong
Kong. Siggs said of the upcoming event: "I'm really excited that we are
taking to the Summit to Asia for its 10th anniversary. The time is
absolutely right and we're receiving a great reaction both on the ground
in Hong Kong and from the current Summit participants. We'll be working
hard to ensure we create a useful space to build on the success to date
and enable our peers in Asia and Australasia to join us."
