Keep the Blue Planet Blue!
"The Earth Flag is my symbol of the task before us all.…Unless we care, unless we check the rapacious exploitations of our Earth and protect it, we are endangering the future of our children and our children's children."—Dr. Margaret Mead
Cultural anthropologist Margaret Mead carried the Earth Day flag, the flag she called "the flag for all people," with her wherever she appeared from 1969 until her death in 1978.
What is the Earth Flag?
The Earth Day Flag, or Earth Flag, features a photo of Earth that many consider to be one of the inspirations for the modern environmental movement.
SeaWeb, in partnership with EarthFlag.net, has created a campaign to bring Margaret Mead's vision into the 21st Century and beyond through the Earth Flag Blue Planet Campaign.
What is the Earth Flag Blue Planet Campaign?
The Earth Flag Blue Planet Campaign is a movement to raise public awareness of the need to protect the ocean while raising funds to support SeaWeb's core mission. A portion of each flag or pin sale sold from EarthFlag.net's Blue Planet Campaign checkout page will be donated to SeaWeb.
Plant Your Flag for the Ocean
To stake your claim to protecting the ocean, take these three simple steps:
- Purchase an Earth Flag or Earth Flag pin through SeaWeb's and EarthFlag.net's joint Blue Ocean Campaign store window. Note: to ensure your purchase benefits SeaWeb's efforts, only purchase your flag through this link.
- Once you've received your flag or pin, take it with you and do something for the ocean, such as cleaning up a beach or teaching a class about ocean issues. Then, take a photo of yourself wearing your pin or holding your Earth Flag.
- E-mail your photo to contactus@seaweb.org and tell the world what you did for the ocean. We'll post your photo and story on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/seaweb.org.
As Margaret Mead said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
Remember, it takes all of us to keep the blue planet blue.
