Graphic Design Intern
SeaWeb, an international, nonprofit, communications organization dedicated to using the science of communications to fundamentally shift the way people interact with the ocean, seeks an Intern to be based in the Washington, D.C. area office. The Intern will provide professional support to the organization's communications team.
This is an unpaid internship. It is an exciting opportunity for someone who is dedicated to improving ocean conservation and gaining experience working for a non-profit organization. Hours are flexible to accommodate class schedule or other commitments. We request a minimum commitment of 20 hours a week, and prefer someone who can work four days a week, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, or 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Responsibilities:
Communications Projects (100% of time):
- Assist in design and layout of print materials such as postcards, calendars, posters, and large format signs
- Assist in design of Web landing pages, Web pages, Web advertisements, and email blasts
- Assist in design of photomontages and typographic graphics for web and print
- Prepare images correctly for use in printed, Web, and video materials
- Perform prepress preparation on files prior to printing
- Perform image searches
- Other projects may be assigned
Skills/Qualifications:
- Successful completion of at least two college level design courses
- Portfolio including samples of both print and web design
- Knowledge of basic principles of design
- Experience with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop
- Passion for user-centered design
- Detail oriented and highly organized
- Reliability
- Ability to multi-task and manage time well
- Commitment to environmental issues
