Coral Pledge

Shallow-water reefs and deep-sea corals throughout the world are threatened by climate change, pollution, overfishing and consumer demand. Deep-sea red and pink corals are among the most valuable and widely traded of all coral species, yet they are the least protected.

In March 2010, international governments failed to provide trade protection for precious red and pink corals at the 15th Conference of Parties of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. Now more than ever, red & pink corals need the support of conscientious consumers.

I pledge to do my part to protect these precious natural resources by refusing to purchase any product made of real coral, including jewelry and home décor items.

In addition, I support the reauthorization of the U.S. Coral Reef Conservation Act, which is currently before the U.S. Congress. These protections for corals will help safeguard them for future generations.
